Karen Lynn Lessig
Karen Lynn Meyers DeWire Lessig, 60, of Saylorsburg passed away to be with the Lord on January 17, 2011 in the VNA Hospice in East Stroudsburg.

Born April 4, 1950 in Bloomsbury, NJ she was the daughter of the late Dorothy and John Meyers.

Karen was a landscaper for many years in the Marshall’s Creek and the Pocono area, having owned Mountain Landscape & Design. Prior to that she worked at the Hunterdon State School in Clinton, NJ. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers & bushes; loved the woods and wild animals. She was a 1968 graduate of Phillipsburg High School. In her younger years she enjoyed horseback riding and playing baseball. She also collected antiques. She had a big heart and would always help the less fortunate.

She was of the Mormon faith.

Karen is survived by her husband, Kirk of Scranton; two sons, John Henderson and his wife, Kristen of Saylorsburg and Michael Henderson and his wife, Lori, of South Carolina; a brother, John and his wife, Anna, of Cookstown, NJ; three sisters, Joan Miller in South Carolina, Carolyn Unangst and her husband, Joe, of Stewartsville and Ginger LeCause of Lopatcong Township; 3 grandchildren, Josh Covel, Kadyn Covel and Michael Noah Henderson; many cousins, nieces and nephews; two dogs, Samantha and Baby and a cat, Sasha. A daughter, Heidi Lynn DeWire passed away in January, 2010 and a grandson, Anthony, also died earlier.

Memorial funeral services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Doyle-Devlin Funeral Home, Inc., 695 Corliss Avenue, Phillipsburg. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to time of services in the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date in Bloomsbury Cemetery.

Madeline Mary Bencsetz Fahringer, 90, passed away on January 6, 2011, at Warren Haven, Oxford, NJ. Born: on August 7, 1920, in Alpha, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Gyurkovics Bencsetz. Personal: Madeline treasured her Austro-Hungarian heritage and her memories of growing up in Alpha. Despite Alzheimer's Disease, she recalled Alpha and her dear parents vividly. She married her beloved soul mate, Elwood Fahringer, on July 11, 1946, in a double wedding with her sister Olga and John Moll. Madeline's love of Elwood remained to the end. She lived all her life in Warren and Hunterdon Counties, NJ, 47 of those years in Harmony Twsp., NJ. Madeline graduated Phillipsburg High School in 1938 and Paine Hall School, NYC, and was medical assistant to Dr. Raymond Wing from 1940 to 1947 in his Easton, PA, practice. With becoming a mother, she was a stay-at-home mom, and, after raising her four children, she was nanny to sixteen other babies and children for working mothers. Affectionately called "Putyi" or "Put" by family, she also bore the nickname "Red" in her youth for her red hair.That red hair complemented her lively spirit, that she spoke her mind, but softly, that she laughed freely and often and was a strong champion for her causes or beliefs. Providing a loving, comfortable home for her husband and family was paramount to Madeline.She enjoyed decorating, sewing, embroidery and crafts.She especially loved to welcome family and friends to visit her home. Above all, she was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother to her children and a loving "Gram" to her grand and great-grandchildren..babies and small children her passion.Madeline was a teacher of love and patience and held dearly the values of family and friendship as a strong matriarch, a woman of insight, a lady. Memberships: Madeline was a past member of Alpha, Bloomsbury and Harmony Presbyterian Churches and recently a member of First Oxford Presbyterian Church of Hazen.She was a very active member of church committees and served as deacon and elder at the Harmony church. Civically, she served for 12 years on the zoning Board in Harmony, NJ, highlighted by work on the Merrill Creek Dam project.She also was a past Girl Scout leader in Alpha and in Bloomsbury. Survivors: She is survived by three daughters, Lynn Lockard of Pohatcong Twsp., NJ, Jane Przybylkiewicz of Saylorsburg, PA, Nancy Fearnhead of Ocean City, NJ, and their respective husbands, Richard, Henrik and Anthony; a son, Glenn and his wife Lisa of Cave Creek, AZ; eleven grandchildren, Michael, Keith, Kristen, Kevin, Daniel, Anthony, Coral, Gwyneth, Justin, Lucas and Ian; eleven great-grandchildren, Destinee, BreAnna, Andrew, Haylee, Colton, Olivia, Kinsey, Ty, Logan, Ian and Ayden; two sisters, Olga Moll and Josephine Hanlon; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased in 2008 by her husband Elwood, and by her sisters Blanche Wilson and Leona Bencsetz. Services: Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, January 22, 2011, (snow date Jan.23) at 2 p.m. at United Presbyterian Church of Alpha. High St., Alpha, NJ, 08865.The Finegan Funeral Home, Phillipsburg, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association , 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834 or to a charity of one's choice.
