Jean Gilde Hoffman, 91, enjoyed travel

Jean Gilde Hoffman died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Sycamore Manor, Montoursville, Pa., where she had been a resident for the past four and a half years. In her later years she dealt with dementia and most recently breast cancer. She was 91 and the mother of Scott Hoffman of New Canaan.
Born May 2, 1920, in Wethersfield, Mrs. Hoffman was the second of three daughters to the late Francis Henry and Marie Louise (Berger) Gilde. Upon graduation from Wethersfield High School she worked for the Society for Savings Bank in Hartford. Proposed to marry on her first date by her husband-to-be, Stearns, she waited for his return from World War II and they married in 1945.
Relocating to New Jersey, she and Stearns raised their three sons, Craig, Scott and Keith. Mrs. Hoffman was a housewife, Cub Scout den mother and volunteer. She loved to travel, her family said, and vacationed throughout New England. She also traveled to Nova Scotia, Western Canada, Florida, Bermuda, St. Croix, and Hawaii.
"She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, golfing (with one hole-in-one to her credit), baking and sewing, but it was her family that was most important to her," her family said.
Surviving are her three sons; Craig (Karen) Hoffman of Cheshire, Scott (Kathy) Hoffman of West Suffield, and Keith (Jan) Hoffman of Montoursville, Pa., six grandchildren; Lindsay (Brian) Gallo of R.I., Kimberly Hoffman of Ga., Christopher Hoffman of Conn., Lisa Hoffman of N.J., Sharon Hoffman of Vt., Sara (Shane) Oakes of Pa., one great-granddaughter, Emily Rose Gallo, and two nephews, Bruce (Ann) Work of Conn., Mark Work of Calif.
She was predeceased by Stearns, her husband of 56 years, and by her two sisters.
Interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill. Memorial contributions may be made to Susquehanna Health Home Care & Hospice, 1001 Grampian Boulevard, 4th Floor South, Williamsport, P.A. 17701.
