Janet L. Sullivan

Janet L. Sullivan, 85, passed away on July 25, 2011 in Kill Devil Hills, NC at the home of her daughter, Peggy Stovall. Born: Janet was born in Easton, PA, on May 21, 1926. Her parents were Leroy and Mae Carpenter, and she had one sister, Marilyn. Personal: She married Dr. James Sullivan in June of 1949. Janet and Jim had a devoted marriage which lasted 54 years. A resident of Bloomsbury, NJ for most of her life, Janet volunteered and was involved in several committees and community events. She was elected twice to the Bloomsbury Town Council, once in 1974 and again in 1977. Janet served as Chairwoman of the Board of Health and was the department head for streets and roads. She was also Secretary of Bloomsbury's Bicentennial Committee. Janet and Jim both loved Bloomsbury and could often be found sitting on their front porch waving to folks passing by. Janet especially loved the Bloomsbury Balloon festival and would ride in a balloon whenever the opportunity arose. An avid reader Janet was known as the Strolling Librarian at Warren Hospital. For 30 years she volunteered weekly to deliver books, smiles and conversation to patients. She was also an accomplished Bridge player and met monthly with her girlfriends to play cards, laugh and share stories. In 2007 Janet moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to be close to family. Memberships: She was a lifelong member of the Warren Hospital Women s Auxiliary and the Church of the Annunciation. Survivors: She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Jerry Stovall, and their children Reed and Austen; and her son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Tracy Sullivan, of Manasquan, NJ and their children, Jimmy, Dan and Samantha. We all wish her peace and will miss her dearly. Services: A memorial service will be held in Bloomsbury and announced at a future date. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Warren Hospital Foundation, 85 Roseberry St., Phillipsburg, NJ 08865. Condolences to the family may be sent via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.

  2. Dear Peggy, I was so sorry to hear of your mom's death. What a wonderful lady she was especially in this time of too few ladies. I know she was one of the people in the Women's Club who saw to it that I got involved in the Youth in Government Program when I was in High School. She was always a pleasure to be with and I know missed your dad a lot. Now they are reunited and I'm sure laughing it up again. :) Take care God bless.
