Working the mines
I have no idea what these guys are mining, but these 2 shots are from postcards of Bloomsbury that my grandmother collected. Imagine working in those clothes... suit and tie??
Well Craig my dad always said Iron Ore. Several years ago they did fly overs to see if mining would once again be profitable on Bloomsbury Mountain. But they also mined iron ore at Mt. Lake. That is why cannonballs were made in the area too. As they were in Oxford during the Revolution. Many of those mines can still be seen today.
Linda, your dad was right. I found an article on the mines from the 1880 New York Times. I show it in a new post since I can't attach a picture in this comment section.
